social media manager's naughty listThis Holiday Season, we’ve decided to turn our small collection of incriminating social media screenshots into an entertaining, yet educational infographic. We manage our own social media, as well as a few of our clients’ accounts, and with all that time spent on social networks, it’s inevitable to come across things we wish we could “unsee.”

Unfortunately, many businesses and brands, both large and small, are still missing the point of social media, which is connecting with your fans and lifting the corporate veil. Besides major no-no’s, such as broadcasting sales pitches or on-again off-again account activity, many companies forget about simple things, such as being helpful and nice to their fans and followers.

    I loved this post and infographic! You really hit this on the head…so many are forgetting or never know in the first place what social media really means. I really liked your message here.

    I especially liked the hit on ignoring your fans – that’s one I see quite often, censoring criticism, and proofreading! At times I’m shocked by some of the things I have seen people/companies do.

    Your post is a good reminder to everyone and will hopefully teach the newbies and unknowing how to do things properly!

    Tom, thank you for your feedback! This was my first attempt at infographic, so good to know it was informative – it means I got the “info” part right!

    Jess, thank you for the kind words! I hope someone will see this and realize they are guilty of some of these social media sins. Sadly, many of the screenshots I used are from large well-established businesses and brands that have thousands of fans and followers. They are the ones who should be setting an example in social media excellence.

    Can’t believe this is your first infographic. It looks awesome! Congrats and keep up the good work..maybe you can teach me how to do it one day! Seriously!

That’s funny your husband works for one of the naughty companies on our list, but most likely all businesses were guilty of some of these social media sins at some point. As for creating infographics, you just need to have a good idea of what you want to tell in the form of some info (advice or numbers) and some graphic (photos, images or screenshots). The rest is technical))

    I used Photoshop because I like to customize everything, but I know there are different templates and tools that make it easier. (oh, and I’m far from being a Photoshop genius, but you won’t believe how far you can get just knowing about layers and brushes!)
